Frequently Asked Questions

FAQWelcome to the Conpulsion Battlegrounds FAQ’s. Here we hope to answer all those burning questions you have about the convention. However if you have a question which is not covered here, please contact us to ask it and we will get right back to you and maybe add the answer here as well.

So without further ado; the questions:

When and where is it?

Conpulsion Battlegrounds will be running on 7-9th April 2017 at Teviot Row House and Potterow in Edinburgh. Opening times will be 7pm on the Friday in Teviot (for a social get together and open gaming) and 9am Saturday and Sunday for the main event. The primary convention hub is Teviot Row student Union, but due to the numbers of events and attendees we are anticipating, we have also taken a large chunk of Potterow just 50 metres away.

How do I get there and where can I stay?

Details of how to get to Conpulsion Battlegrounds and where to stay for the duration are given here.

How much are tickets?

Information regarding pricing  can be found here. Children under the age of 9 who are not going to be playing games get in free on the day (subject to venue capacity).

All under 16s need a named adult in the building, contactable via mobile. Adult need not play and can enjoy a coffee in civilised surroundings.

The convention seems very reasonably priced. are there any hidden charges?

There are no hidden charges. RPGs, boardgames, LARPs, tournaments, and events are all included in the price and will be free to participate in unless you need to buy something to take part in which case you will own the items at the end of the event. So yes, we are very reasonably priced 🙂

Ah so I bet the food and drink is extortionate then?

Um… No. The food and drink is really reasonable as we are based in a student union. There are also plenty of other eateries and supermarkets nearby if you want to be as economical as possible.

I want to book loads of events. Is that OK?

Yes, that is fine. However please check what times the events you want to attend are scheduled for and don’t double book yourself for a slot (basically there are 5 slots and you can book one event per slot – or possibly 2 events for certain things on Sunday morning, be aware that many tournaments take TWO slots, morning and afternoon). The booking methods for different events varies as does when they open for booking. Details of how to book are given on the relevant pages. Also please be polite and only book things which you intend to participate in so as not to block attendance by others.

If you don’t want to book in advance there will be plenty of spaces to sign up on the day and lots of open gaming spaces as well.

This all sounds great, what can I do to help?

There are lots of ways you can help. You could run an RPG or LARP, assist on the weekend as a blueshirt, join our demo team to demonstrate shiny new board and card games to our attendees or volunteer to run a gaming related event for us if you think there is some critical aspect of tabletop gaming we are missing. To do any of these, please look at Get Involved on the top menu.

The other big way you can help is by spreading the word about Conpulsion. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and email your friends who might like Conpulsion but have not heard about it a link to us. Speak to your local game store about us and ask them to request a poster and flyers. Talk about us to friends, post about us on your gaming blog. The more people hear about Conpulsion the more people will come and the better it will be!

Oh, and in all the excitement don’t forget to buy a ticket and attend yourself 🙂

Can I bring kids along?

Yes. If they are going to be playing any games they will need a ticket, if they are too young for this they can attend for free. Also while you are welcome to bring children please bear in mind that you are responsible for looking after them. Unsupervised children may be given 2 litres of Irn Bru and a copy of the Necronomicon.

All under 16s need a named adult in the building, contactable via mobile. Adult need not play and can enjoy a coffee in civilised surroundings.

Is there anything else I should be aware of?
