Conpulsion recommends a day out at Edinburgh Interactive

It’s not every day you get to see some heroes and great speakers from the games industry come together in on place, at one time. Let alone that you can attend for free. Saturday 11th August is not just any day though.

This year, in its tenth anniversary, Edinburgh Interactive has a group of interesting public sessions to tantalise those interested in games and gaming of all ages. It’s not just simply videogames talent that is on show but also a number of people you may attach to the more mainstream areas of gaming and roleplaying, including Conpulsion’s good friend Iain Lowson (Dark Harvest: Legacy of Frankenstein) and co-creator of the Fighting Fantasy series and Games Workshop Ian Livingstone.

Before you start counting your pennies, wondering how much these will cost it’s important to note that the public sessions are FREE. Yes it costs nothing to hear talks about the history of the Fighting Fantasy game books, now celebrating their 30th anniversary, or developing characters for games. Being part of the human console or simply hearing about games journalism. For kids from 11-16 there are sessions on developing games run by BAFTA, letting them experience the process and make some games of their own.

All you have to do is book tickets through Eventbrite here. http://edinburghinteractivepublic.eventbrite.com/?ebtv=C

We thoroughly recommend all the sessions, but highlights are certainly the talk by Iain Livingstone and Kevin Beamers, Iain Lowson and James Parker’s talk on character design, which sounds good.

So the organisers would love to see you there, some of us Conpulsion bods will be there and, in general, there are plenty of reasons to enjoy a trip to Edinburgh.

Bring & Buy

A chance to offload your junk – sorry, much sought after pre-loved gaming goods – or buy some stuff.  Or if you’re really keen, both!  As usual, the stall will be accepting items from shortly after doors open.
